  • Tales with Atticus (USA) - The lore is SO good!

Boredom Stirs Darkness is a dense, lore-rich start to The Annals of the Draconians. It takes a little time to settle into the world as there’s a lot of history, politics, and mythology introduced up front, but once I found the rhythm, I was hooked. The conflict between the Temporians and Drakions, along with the scheming of the beasts of power, makes for an ambitious and layered story that blends sci-fi and fantasy elements.

I especially enjoyed the political intrigue and the sense of tension that runs through the different factions. The “beast masquerading as a man” angle and the murder mystery thread added an extra layer of suspense that kept me engaged, even when the pacing slowed in places. The worldbuilding really is expansive, and at times it feels like the foundation for something much bigger to come.

Since I listened to the audiobook, I also want to note how excellent the narration was. The narrator brought energy and clarity to a complex story, which really helped me follow the dense lore and keep the many moving parts straight.

Overall, Boredom Stirs Darkness is a strong entry point into a larger saga. If you enjoy big, ambitious sci-fi/fantasy worlds filled with political maneuvering, ancient beasts, and high-stakes battles, this series opener is worth diving into.

  • Jun - Rich worldbuilding and even deeper character development

This series just keeps getting better! If you're into dragons in disguise, interstellar politics, and complicated relationships, this one delivers. The romantic tension is chef’s kiss, especially with Ahzurin and his bonded situation it’s messy in the best way. Also, the Temporian storyline is super intriguing.

  • Lynn B. (USA) - Fantasy, spice, and dragons.

I love that it’s easy to get totally consumed by these books. Trouble Comes in Orange is the third book of the series Annals of the Draconians. Throughout the galaxy everyone finds themselves dealing with the chaos caused by the two female Draconians. Ahzurin is faced with making difficult choices as he handles his half-sister’s actions. Everything Ahzurin has come to cherish is at stake. The story follows many of the characters from the previous books, but introduces some new players too. I’m obsessed with how the author introduces new aspects to this fantasy world in each book. It was definitely a roller coaster of emotions and spicy too. Just like the first two books I was completely captivated. I would read any future work this author writes.

  • Tarik H (Canada) - Interesting READ.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but once I got into it, I couldn’t stop. The whole idea of these powerful beasts ,trying to keep balance in the galaxy while also secretly plotting against each other was so cool. You can really feel the tension, like something big is always about to happen. The mix of science and magic was nice. Nice read.

  • Cococco1974 (Spain) - A unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy

At first, I was a bit skeptical about how dragons and space travel would work together, but it actually turned out pretty cool. The world-building is massive and kind of crazy in a good way—there's magic, advanced tech, and powerful beings in a never-ending battle. Some parts can be a bit heavy, but once you get used to the style, the story really draws you in. If you’re into big, imaginative worlds and open to trying something a bit different, you should definitely check it out.

  • Mattia (Italy) - A very beautiful book!

A thrilling and imaginative continuation of the Draconians saga. Book 3 dives deeper into Ahzurin’s internal conflict, torn between loyalty and legacy. The world-building is rich, the characters complex, and the dark twists keep you hooked. A must-read for sci-fi fantasy fans.

  • Trouble (UK) - Draconian Darkness

I read this and the second in the series one after the other and this makes for a great start. A great mix of fantasy elements blended with sci-fi too - a wild galaxy, magic, monsters, dragons and elves - this had the lot.
